David Hahn is thrilled to be able to lead the music ministry at Bethlehem Church, surrounded by an absolutely wonderful group of staff and volunteers. At Bethlehem, David directs the Chancel Choir and oversees the music ministry that includes one of the largest organs in the city, a full choir of handbells, and gifted staff.
David is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Before coming to Michigan, David resided in New York where he was the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Orchard Park Chorale and Director of Choral Music at Nichols School where he directed the Concert Choir, Honors Vocal Ensemble, and taught courses in voice, electronic music composition, and music appreciation. While at Nichols, David grew the choral program over 85%, created and directed the Nichols Choral Festival, led his students in a performance at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and increased the fundamental musical literacy of his students by completely redesigning the upper school music curriculum and championing innovative courses.
As a lyric baritone, David has enjoyed professional memberships in several choral organizations, most notably as Bass Section Leader in the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, the Chicago Choral Artists, VOICES, First Inversion, and the Eastman-Rochester Chorus where he also served as Ensemble Manager. He has also performed with Buffalo Opera Unlimited, most recently in 2018 as Lieutenant Gordon in their historic performance of Kevin Puts' Silent Night. Past solos include: Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem adn Dominick Argento's Four Seascapes with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus, Stravinsky's Mass with the Eastman Repertory Singers, and the Faure Requiem and Handel's Messiah with the Moody Oratorio Chorus.
David holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Sacred Music from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and the Master of Music degree in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music where he was a recipient of the Edith H. Babcock and Herman Genhart Choral Conducting scholarships. David has furthered his training at the CCM Opera Bootcamp, Wintergreen Conductor's Summit, and Chorus America Conducting Academy. His mentors include Eugene Rogers, William Weinert, Mark Gibson, Brad Lubman, Tim Stafford, and Jim Mitchell. He has also studied voice with Robert Swensen at ESM, Terry Strandt at MBI, and Kyle Ferrill at Interlochen.
